Information about Grenada
Country
Grenada
Grenada is an island nation and sovereign state consisting of the island of Grenada and six smaller islands at the southern end of the Grenadines in the southeastern Caribbean Sea. Grenada is located northwest of Trinidad and Tobago, northeast of Venezuela, and southwest of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Its size is 344 km² with an estimated population of 110,000. Its capital is St. George's. The national bird of Grenada is the critically endanger...ed Grenada Dove.

Economic progress in fiscal reforms and prudent macroeconomic management have boosted annual growth to 5%–6% in 1998–99; the increase in economic activity has been led by construction and trade. Tourist facilities are being expanded; tourism is the leading foreign exchange earner. Major short-term concerns are the rising fiscal deficit and the deterioration in the external account balance. Grenada shares a common central bank and a common currency (the East Caribbean dollar) with seven other members of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
Capital
St. George’s
St. George's, population 7,500 (1999), with an agglomeration of 33,000 people is the capital of Grenada, British West Indies. The city is surrounded by a hillside of an old volcano crater and is on a horseshoe-shaped harbour. The city is a popular Caribbean Tourist destination that attracts thousands of tourists, cruise ships, and even celebrities. The city has significantly developed in recent years, while preserving its rich history, culture, and natural beauty. The city is home of St. George’s University School of Medicine. The main exports are cacao, nutmeg, and mace.
Biggest cities
Grenville
Grenville is the second largest city in Grenada, after St. George's, and it is the capital of the largest parish, Saint Andrew Parish. Grenville is located on Grenville Bay, about halfway up the east coast of the Caribbean island of Grenada and is heavily involved in the agriculture export industry. The city has a population of about 2,400 residents, with many more in the surrounding region. It serves as an economic and transportation hub for that part of the island, having the largest nutmeg-processing plant in Grenada. From the city's marketplace you can find minibuses (the common form of public transportation on the island) to areas all around the island. It is located near Grenada's first airport, Pearls Airport, which became disused when a new airport was built. Eric Gairy, the first Prime Minister of Grenada, was born near Grenville.
Gouyave
Gouyave is the third-largest fishing town in Grenada (behind the capital, St. George's and Grenville), with a population of 4,378. It is located on the west coast of that island and is the capital of Saint John Parish. Originally called Charlotte Town after Queen Charlotte of Britain, it was renamed Gouyave by the French because of its large amounts of guava trees. The town was the site of a large battle in 1795. Gouyave is called the “town that never sleeps” and it does a fine job living up to its name. It is also called the “action city”, Gouyave is known for its social events like parties/dances, Fish Friday, and carnival . It is noisy; it is action packed; it is glitter; it is characters that offer impromptu comedy; and it is a delight; it is Gouyave. One of the town's annual celebrations is Fisherman's Birthday "aka 29th June". On the week of June 29, fishermen come from all over Grenada for Competitive boat racing. Also, every Friday the town celebrates "Fish Friday", a warm atmosphere of locals and tourists socializing & eating all sorts of fish dishes and meals. Visitors have always found Gouyave to be a welcoming and safe little town; a smile is the trademark of the people.
Victoria
Victoria is a town in Grenada. It is located on the island's northwest coast between Gouyave and Nonpareil. Victoria is the center of activity for the St Mark's parish, the smallest parish on the island in both area and populace with approximately 4,000 people residing. The people of Victoria are warm, kind and very friendly. When one lives in Victoria, or St Mark's, they are dubbed to be living in the country. And when you visit, you will most definitely get that feel as you see farmers collecting their produce and the small mom and pop stores surrounding the village. Victoria is a home away from home because of this atmosphere, location, and the people!
Saint Davids
Saint David in the southeastern part of Grenada is the fourth largest parish on the island. It is also the only one without a main town. Because of this fact, it is sometimes referred to as "The Virgin Parish". It is ringed by spectacular bays and inlets that help to provide the nation with a variety of small secluded beaches. With a rocky coastline that slopes up gently towards the central mountainous ridge, its beauty lies in its completely rural state.
